The British Side By Side Championship & Festival of Gunmaking 2018
Saturday 25th August saw Atkin Grant & Lang play host to an array of classic craftsmanship, from Damascus barrelled side levers to 19th century wildfowling guns and everything in between. This was due to The British Side By Side Championship, a popular event that has been running for 20 years.
The Championship consisted of a 120 bird English Sporting course set over 12 stands. The testing layout was specifically designed for side by sides and not only included three difference sequences but also involved a loader in the grouse butt and being live on your peg on the rabbit stand. This is not your standard clay competition that's for sure, the day was all about showing off exquisitely crafted, traditional side by sides and putting their owners skills to the test with a range of simulated game targets.
Over 100 competitors took part but it was J Lacey who claimed the Championship title with his Holland & Holland 12bore on an impressive score of 112. All of the scores can be found in the 'Event Results' section of our website.
Another part of this charming competition is the Festival of Gunmaking, an addition made for the first time last year. Gunmakers and retailers such as E J Churchill, William Evans, Carl Russell, Chris Potter, Elderkin & Son and of course Atkin Grant & Lang were displaying a range of different side by sides for customers to view.
The event was once again a huge success. Everyone that attended had a true interest and love for their guns, and this combined with a well thought out course and great hospitality was a recipe for the perfect day.
