Get to know our Sponsored Shooters

Here at AGL we sponsor a selection of individuals that are passionate about the sport of clay pigeon shooting. We believe that a little extra support from us can help these talented shooters achieve their sporting goals.

Meet Glen, a retired Coldstream Guard who took up shooting as a new hobby when he left the military. Glen has only been shooting for just over a year but has already achieved a huge amount. We love working with Glen as he embraces every competition with the attitude of "having fun with the sport and never forgeting to smile. It’s just a game.”

Name: Glen Goldthorpe

When did you start shooting? I started shooting in September 2017, just a little over a year.

Why did you start shooting? I retired from the Coldstream Guards after 22 years service in the military and wanted to start new hobbies. I started at the Worlds at Kelmarsh, where i met my good friend and coach Dean Gibbs, another AGL sponsored shooter who guided me to the success I have achieved this year.

What do you enjoy most about shooting? Shooting to me is more than just shooting 100 clay targets and then making your way home. It’s the ability to implement processes and strive to improve week on week. It’s also a chance to meet new likeminded people and enjoy the weekend together. Not to mention the desire to win your class or reach new personal bests. All that aside you must have fun with the sport and never forget to smile. “It’s just a game.”

What is your biggest achievement in 2018? 2018 as been a great year for me. It started with a 2nd in Class at the Essex Masters, a 3rd in class at the English Open hosted by AGL followed by a 2nd in Class at the Worlds at EJ Churchill’s. I have also managed to shoot overseas at the European and World events which I have learned so much from!

What are your goals for 2019? The room for error massively reduces as you step up in class and the problem is that there are so many talented shooters out there. My plan is to continue learning and improving but always make sure I am enjoying what I do. If success comes, embrace it, but always remember how I got there and who helped.

I would like to give a massive shout out to Team AGL, Lyalvale Express and Dean Gibbs Coaching. I couldn’t have done it without you all.
