The Beauty of Bespoke

The Beauty of Bespoke

With The Ledger Volume II arriving with us at the end of this week, I thought I would share one of my absolute favourite articles from within it.

When we first started building the new Stephen Grant Round Action Over & Unders, lead by our Director and Project Manager Matt Hunt, we had the honour of building an exceptionally special gun for Professor John Taylor.

Professor Taylor is a keen collector of vintage guns and has a strong appreciation for the story behind each and every one he owns, but his Grant was to be different. This gun was being built just for him, with his involvement every step of the way. One of the most personal parts of a shotgun or rifle is the engraving, and in this article Professor Taylor explains the incredible inspiration and meaning behind his 'Poppy Gun'...

"I wanted the gun to be beautiful, meaningful and traditionally English but I did not have the foggiest idea where to start. What story? What style? How much did I want to spend? All of these questions ran through my mind. I thought of several potential themes: game scenes, my dog, an artistic style etc. Eventually I decided to go for a theme derived from a landmark project I lead during my past career as an academic."
