No, as a non member you are very welcome to shoot at AGL although you will be charged a higher non-member rate on clays and any cartridge purchases. No, as long as you are accompanied by a licence holder or booked in for a lesson with one of our instructors.

If you are part of a  group bookings such as a Have A Go, Lang, Grant or Atkin package then you do not need a shotgun licence as you will be accompanied by an instructor.

If you do have a shotgun certificate then please  bring it with you  as you will need to show it to shop staff whilst booking in and collecting a key card. You will also need to show it every time you purchase ammunition or wish to hire a gun.

You can not shoot or attend the ground at AGL, if you are a person considered a 'prohibited persons' under the 1968 firearms act.

You can use your own cartridges providing they meet the following criterea:

  • The shot load does not exceed 28g (1oz)
  • The physical shot size of the lead pellets used is 6.5 or smaller. IE cartridges with a shoit size of 7, 7.5, 8 or 9 are allowed
  • Only Felt / Earth / Eco wads are to be used

We insist on these restrictions to minimise plastic enviromental contamination, prevent shot leaving the ground boundry and to maximise safety measures. Should an accident occur then the use of these shot sizes may help redused the amount of physical injury caused.

Steel cartridges with shot sizes of 7 (only) can be used but as this is a developing area of the sport please check with senior staff first and make sure your shotgun is compatable before using steel ammuntion.

We recommend a minimum age of 8 years old as the child needs to be strong enough to hold a shotgun and to understand the important safety rules necessary to enjoy shooting.

There is no need to book, you can just turn up, sign into the shop and take out a key card to access the stands automated controlls.  You can shoot each stand, whether unaccompanied or with friends, using the Promatic Claymate system. Please make sure you bring your shotgun license with you, as you will not be able to shoot unaccompanied without it.

If you require a lesson then you will need to book this before you arrive. You can check avalibility and book using our online booking system.

The Promatic Claymate system is an automated system that uses a key card to operate the traps. This card will count the amount of clays fired and can be read on any of the Claymate boxes on the stands and in lodge at the end of your round. If you experience any no birds or breakages, let us know and we will deduct them from the total. This system allows you to shoot each stand at your own pace and to use the ground as you wish.

The Claymate system gives you total control - you can repeat any shot on any stand until you have mastered it, or skip the stand all together. We believe it gives you the best shooting experience as your round is totally unique to you.

Yes, we welcome people to come and watch but they will be required to wear the appropriate safety equipment, which we can provide.

This is a common question and misconseption when it comes to clay pigeon shooting.

For group sessions we use light recoil cartridges and our instructors will ensure popper gun fit to minimise the lieklyhood of any issues.

Our instructors will show you how to handle the gun properly. Our aim is to make the experince fun and rewarding. Please make sure that your shoulder area in clear of any buckles, buttons or poppers that may interfer with the gun butt and it's ability to fit snugly in either 'shoulder pocket'.
